Hats for Heroes 2015 – Thanks to All
With the hustle and bustle of the holidays rapidly approaching, it was very gratifying to take the time to attend the Veterans Day Ceremony at the Long Island State Veterans Home on Friday, November 6th. UUP members Alissa Betz, Margaret Abbatiello, Jessica Rotolo, Robin McCarthy, Kevin Moriarity, and Jeanmarie Ricciardi helped to distribute the Hats for Heroes to the LISVH resident veterans as they entered the LISVH All Purpose Room for this ceremony.
Because of your generosity and the wonderful assistance of our UUP Community Service Committee members, our UUP President Arthur Shertzer presented a total of over $2200 along with a letter from UUP thanking LISVH for all that they do for our veterans. We were able to supply military service caps to all LISVH residents as well as the veterans in the Adult Day Care program. In addition any funds beyond what was needed to cover the cost of the military service caps will go to the Therapeutic Recreation department run by Michelle Cheslak, Director of Therapeutic Recreation, for programs for our veterans.
Personally I would also like to express how much I enjoyed the comments from people who donated monies. They told me how much they loved our veterans and liked the Hats for Heroes program. They spoke about how much it meant to them to be able to give something back to our brave veterans.
All of us came together to make a greater collective whole and do something really worthwhile. And that I know for sure when I look at the faces of our veterans entering the LISVH Veterans Day Ceremony. We all can be very proud to have this opportunity to be able to express our appreciation to our heroes.
The UUP Community Services Committee thanks everyone who donated for letting us do this on your behalf!
